Expertise

Development of non-invasive cardiac optogenetic control in Drosophila, organoids, and mammal models

Biography

Elena Gracheva joined the Chao Zhou lab in Biomedical Engineering Department in 2021. She transferred from the Biology Department where she studied the heterochtomatin formation, epigenetics, and gene regulation. Elena Gracheva worked as Principal Scientist at Medros, Inc (St Louis, MO) leading the of drug and drug target discovery projects. Elena received her PhD in molecular genetics from the Institute of Gene Biology (Moscow, Russia).

Research

Elena Gracheva focuses on optimization of cardiovascular optogenetic approaches in various model systems. Elena's goal is to enforce pre-clinical research efficiency through interdisciplinary fusion of molecular genetics, engineering, and data processing. Elena Gracheva works on modelling rare human disease, retinal vasculopathy with cerebral leukoencephalopathy and systemic manifestations (RVCL-S), in Drosophila melanogaster.
